How BMW is deceiving us with the new M5 Touring

Do you really think dogs are afraid of fireworks on New Year’s Eve? Not at all! You’re already stressed because you might soon have to sit in the back seat of the new BMW M5 Touring.
BMW hasn’t officially unveiled the model yet, but has posted an adorable video online of the M5 Touring being gift-wrapped in Santa’s garage.
BMW M5 Touring in 2024
“Our gift to you,” is the misleading statement at the end, because excuse me… our gift? What do you mean by our gift? It’s really not like we’ll find an M5 under our tree this Christmas.
Firstly, the M5 Touring will not be presented until next year and secondly, the over 700 hp station wagon is of course a cigar out of its own box. Because we simply have to pay for this “gift”.
Probably lower price
How much is not yet known. The switch isn’t easy either, as the brand new M5 will be a plug-in hybrid, which ensures lower CO2 emissions than the previous model.
Just like the BMW XM
The M5 Touring actually gets the same twin-turbo V8 with plug-in hybrid support as the XM, producing maximum power of 748 hp and 1000 Nm of torque.
Back to the dogs. You’ll have to keep your food down in the M5 Touring as it rockets to 60 mph in about 3 seconds. And they probably have to withstand a lot when cornering.
M5 Touring is rare
BMW hasn’t often built a station wagon variant of its fast M5. There was only one of the second, the E34 with six cylinders, and also the fourth, the E60/61 with ten cylinders.

The M5 E34 Touring is one of the rarest BMW models with a production number of just 891. It was powered by a beautiful 3.8 liter inline six-cylinder with 340 hp. It went from zero to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds.

The M5 E61 Touring is slightly less rare with a production number of 1025 examples. At the front there is a high-revving 5.0-liter V10 with 507 hp. Without a governor, the station model reached a speed of 304 km/h.
