Toyota doesn’t give up and just thinks about a hydrogen car again

Toyota is not afraid to be outdone and is producing another hydrogen car. This time it is the sedan version of the Crown.

We no longer have the Crown in the Netherlands, but it is an important model for Toyota in Japan. While it was only available as a sedan for the last twenty years, the delivery program is now being expanded.

Another hydrogen car from Toyota

There are currently a number of body styles for the sixteenth-generation Crown: a four-door crossover, a five-door SUV, and this all-new sedan. Next year there will also be a station wagon.

The name “limousine” is not entirely correct. Just like the Skoda Superb and Volkswagen ID.7, the Crown Sedan is actually a liftback with a large fifth door.

In Europe, the hydrogen Toyota with its length of 5 meters would fall into the segment of the Audi A6 and the BMW 5 Series.

The Toyota Crown powertrain

Currently, the Crown is only available as a hybrid, with a 2.5-liter Atkinson engine, an electric motor and a ten-speed automatic transmission.

Toyota will also soon introduce a fuel cell version. This is basically the Mirai’s hydrogen system, with three hydrogen tanks in the floor and a 182 hp and 300 Nm electric motor. Fully fueled with hydrogen, the Crown Sedan FCEV should be able to travel around 820 kilometers.
