Yesterday Autovisie showed you the first pictures of the new Renault Twingo. Although the car is sold under the Renault name, it is actually a car from a different brand: Ampere.
Ampere is a new company that will focus exclusively on electric cars for Renault, Alpina, Nissan and Mitsubishi. All four brands are of course closely related to the French Wiebertje.
The new Twingo is actually not a Renault
So there is a clear separation. Renault will focus exclusively on petrol cars and Ampere will only build electric vehicles like the new Twingo. Around 10,000 Renault employees will be employed at Ampere. The new brand even goes public.

Ampere’s cars are built on its own platform. A total of seven new electric cars will be produced between 2024 and 2031. The goal is to sell 300,000 cars in 2025 and one million cars by 2031. This would mean sales of 25 billion euros.
Although Ampere can actually be considered a different brand, there is not as clear a separation as Seat and Cupra. The new Twingo 4 and 5 are all sold under the Renault brand name.
Competition for China and America
Renault hopes to be able to offer good competition to cars from America and China with its new brand. In terms of price, the new Twingo will definitely be able to keep up with the models from the Far East. The 5 Series also promises to be an attractively priced car. This is what we already know about this model.
