Cars Are Mobile Privacy Violators: These Brands Keep Track of Your Sex Life

Cars are becoming more and more advanced and can now be described as driving computers. One disadvantage of these computers is that they store a lot of data. Not just your battery charge, navigation or tire pressure. Even your sex life is tracked by some brands.

Mozilla, the parent company of the Firefox browser, has taken a close look at the privacy policies of 25 car brands. The results are quite remarkable.

No major car brand treats your privacy well

The tech giant looked at the privacy policies of 25 automakers. Not a single brand was able to prevail.

Information about your sex life

For example, Nissan and Kia collect information about your sex life using data from your phone, and General Motors and Ford store your sexual orientation and ethnicity. In the Netherlands, Nissan and Kia do not include the collection of information about sexual activity in their privacy policies. Mozilla’s research was conducted on the American car market.

But what happens to all this data? The research shows that 84 percent of car brands share or sell the information.

With most car brands, you have no control over your data. Except for Renault and Dacia. They give you the right to delete your personal data.

Tesla performs worst

The privacy of modern cars is so poorly regulated that Mozilla points out that it doesn’t matter much which car you buy. However, Tesla performs worst.

If you want to stay under the radar and be sure your data is safe, your best bet is to keep driving an old car. However, you also have to throw your phone in the trash. Since Mozilla prefers not to have privacy violators like cars – and of course wants you to keep using your phone – you can sign a petition. Let’s hope that the vehicle data is as well protected as the occupants of a new car. There is much to do!
