The new Skoda Superb will surprise no one

Skoda has shown several teasers of the new Superb, each more exciting than the last. The production model gives us a feeling of déjá vu: We already know this Skoda Superb, right?

Let’s not make a fuss about it. Skoda is not a brand with big design statements, but with slim, functional and straightforward models whose design builds on their predecessors.

Skoda Superb has become longer

Compared to the current Superb, the new one has a larger radiator grille, slimmer lighting units and – especially as a station wagon – a more straight line. It has become 4.3 centimeters longer (now 4.91 meters) and 1.5 centimeters narrower (now 1.85 meters).

It is noteworthy that the wheelbase of 2.84 meters corresponds to that of the third generation Superb. According to Skoda, there will be no change to the already ample legroom in the rear, only headroom at the front and rear will be added.

The tribe has also grown

The tribe has also grown. The hatchback – the Superb has a large fifth door – has a capacity of 645 liters (up 20 liters). The Combi fits 690 liters as standard (plus 30 liters) and even 1290 liters with the rear seat folded down.

Because yes, in contrast to the technically identical Volkswagen Passat, the Skoda is still marketed as a “sedan”.

Mild and plug-in hybrid

There will be no fully electric Superb. When the Skoda arrives at Dutch dealers in the spring, interested parties can choose between a mild hybrid with 150 hp and a plug-in hybrid with 204 hp. The latter can drive a maximum of 100 kilometers electrically with its 25.7 kWh and can be charged with a maximum of 50 kW.

An automatic DSG transmission is installed as standard on all Superbs, which is now controlled via a lever on the steering wheel. Also available at no extra charge are a 10-inch digital cockpit and a 13-inch infotainment screen.

Skoda Superb with Smart Dials

Skoda emphasizes that there are physical buttons for the window ventilation, rear window heating, recirculation and air conditioning functions.

The Superb is also equipped with three so-called Smart Dials; three round rotary and push buttons that can be configured by the driver. This makes it possible to control volume, air conditioning, driving modes and the navigation map.
