This 1039 hp Hellephant V8 could fit in your Fiat Panda

Okay, that’s an exaggeration, but for hobbyists this Hellephant engine is a dream. For the “mere” amount of 25,795 US dollars (approx. 24,000 euros) you can buy a 1039 hp supercharged V8 from Dodge.

It’s a uniquely American phenomenon Box engine. This is a separate engine with accessories for people who want to make their classic muscle car more powerful, for example.

Hellephant and Hurricrate

The website of Mopar, Stellantis’ parts supplier, currently lists six such engines, two inline-sixes (the Hurricrates) and four V8s.

Eight-cylinder with supercharger

The Hellephant C170 is the latest: the 6.2-liter supercharged eight-cylinder from the Dodge Demon. To commemorate the departure of the current Dodge Challenger, 3,300 examples will be built.

In order to achieve the full power of 1039 hp and the maximum torque of 1281 Nm, the eight-cylinder engine must be fed with E85 fuel. With regular American gasoline it still produces 912 hp and 1098 Nm.

Even stronger version

You might think that the Hellephant C170 is Dodge’s most powerful crate engine, but no… There’s also a 7.0-liter A170 variant with no less than 1115 horsepower.

Dodge Challenger very old

In terms of car years, the Dodge Challenger is very old. It was released in 2008, so it’s over fifteen years old. It will be replaced by a model we’ve already seen a preview of: the electric Charger Daytona SRT Concept.

The study model has all-wheel drive, an 800-volt electrical system for super-fast charging and a sound generator that supposedly complains just as loudly as the Dodge Challenger Hellcat.
