Car maintenance costs are increasing by more than 8 percent!

Maintaining a car can be a significant expense. However, it is important to get your car serviced on time. This way you avoid costly repairs. But maintenance is also very expensive these days. Maintenance costs rose by more than 8 percent last year.

This emerges from figures from the Boveg-Rai Aftersales Monitor. In the first half of 2023, the Dutch spent an average of 326 euros on maintenance. In the same period last year it was 310 euros. An increase of 5.2 percent.

Rising maintenance costs

The more than 8 percent increase isn’t just due to rising maintenance costs as parts and labor have become more expensive. The increase in maintenance frequency also contributes to this significant percentage.

The main reasons why cars went to the workshop were: for an MOT and maintenance (29 percent), for maintenance (19 percent), for an interim repair (18 percent) and for a separate MOT (10 percent).

Cars in the Netherlands are getting older

It’s no surprise that cars are being serviced more frequently. The average age of cars in the Dutch fleet is increasing.
