Many know Toyota as the brand that builds solid and reliable cars, but enthusiasts also know that the Japanese automaker has launched many fun and sporty models, for example the MR 2. Still, the new version makes us sad.
It is not certain that Toyota will launch a new MR 2. Japanese media report that an MR 2 is planned. Toyota hasn’t confirmed anything yet.
A new Toyota MR 2
According to reports, the new Toyota MR 2 will receive the powertrain of the Toyota GR Corolla. This means that under the hood there is a three-cylinder 1.6-liter turbo engine that is good for 300 hp and 370 (or 400) Nm of torque. The Corolla GR, which is not available in the Netherlands, has a manual transmission and all-wheel drive.
Sad news
A light-footed sports car with a turbo engine will be music to the ears of some enthusiasts. However, we are rather sad about this news about the new MR 2. If the car goes into production, it will not be delivered in Europe. In fact, only Japanese people will be able to benefit from the model in the future. Merde!
Toyota showed a GR Sport Concept back in 2021, which may provide a glimpse into the future of the MR 2. Whether the model will ever actually come remains to be seen. Want to stay up to date with all the latest automotive news? Then subscribe to our newsletter!
