Hey, there are finally more colors for the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y

In the Netherlands you can find a Tesla Model 3 and Model Y on almost every street corner. And then you notice how few colors there are: black, blue, red, white and gray.

The positive news is that Tesla has finally added more exterior colors to its price list. The negative news is that these colors are currently only available in the US.

They aren’t really paint colors either. Tesla only offers a range of wraps for an additional charge. Seven pieces to be precise, in black, gray, white and red, but also in light blue, dark green and champagne.

Not exactly the boldest of shades, as four of the options are similar to existing colors, but hey… Also, it’s a bit of a shame that Tesla only offers wraps.

A film protects the paint

Why? Because you can often clearly see that a car is wrapped in foil. A film consists of several plastic surfaces that are applied to the car and protect the paint from scratches and stone chips.

Wraps are very good these days, but the color often doesn’t appear as shiny and deep as a painted car. If you look closely you can also see the film in the corners and edges.

Only available in California

The seven Tesla films can now only be ordered in California, via the brand’s online shop or via the Tesla app. They cost $7,500 or $8,000 depending on the color you choose.

And that is expensive! Normally an optional color on a car costs a few hundred euros to perhaps a maximum of 2000 euros. The Tesla Cybertruck also gets the wrap option.
