Why the X2 and the iX2 finally fit in with the rest of the BMW models

The BMW X2 should behave normally. The new generation X2 is finally in line with the other models. We explain how this works in this video.

The BMW X2 has always been a somewhat strange model. Underneath, the car was always the same as the X1 and Mini Countryman, but had a unique design. In the BMW X models you will see a beautiful, enlarging staircase in the model range. For example, the X1, X3, X5 and X7 are all SUVs, while the X4 and X6 are both coupe SUVs.

The BMW X2 should behave normally

The BMW X2 therefore did not fit this body shape. Until now, because the new X2 is a real coupe SUV.

The BMW X2 has become more of a small X4, a real coupé SUV. Although BMW calls it a Sports Activity Coupé. The car has become almost 20 centimeters longer and more than 2 centimeters wider. It has also grown in height by 6 centimeters.

The fact that there is an M35i XDrive variant of the X2 proves that BMW actually sees this model as the sporty brother of the X1. This gets two dual exhaust pipes at the rear. This version will be available immediately from market launch; there is no X1 in this version yet.

The powertrain consists of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 300 horsepower. The model sprints from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 5.4 seconds. This version also receives an adaptive M sports suspension and can be ordered with a special M brake system.

Less sporty BMW X2

Of course there are also less sporty versions. There is the sDrive20i, which is known from the X1. This powertrain consists of a 1.5 liter engine combined with a 48V mild hybrid system. The car has an output of 170 hp. You can also use diesel with a 150 hp sDrive18d, consisting of a four-cylinder with a displacement of 2.0 liters.

The iX2

The BMW X2 is also available as a fully electric car, the iX2. It is currently only available as an xDrive30 with 313 hp and a range of 417 to 449 kilometers. Under the skin, this car is also identical to the iX1. This means you can sprint from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 5.6 seconds and can charge a maximum of 130 kW using the DC charger. The platform still uses a 400 volt system and therefore cannot charge very quickly. However, if you enable this option, 22 kW is possible on the AC charger. By default this is 11 kW.

The luggage compartment is large. Depending on the model variant, the new BMW X2 has a space of 560 to 1,470 liters. The BMW iX2 offers 525 to 1,400 liters of luggage space. You might think it’s smaller than the BMW X1, but nothing could be further from the truth. It is more spacious than this model. The car is therefore a little longer, but much lower. So you can’t really call the X2 any less practical. At least if you don’t pay attention to the space in the back seat.

The prices

The global market launch will take place in March 2024. BMW only mentions 52,340 euros as the price for the BMW X2 sDrive20i Launch Edition. The BMW iX2 is available from 59,350 euros. We’re talking about the xDrive30.

In summer 2024, BMW will introduce another fully electric version and another diesel engine.
