The electric Audi R8 is the Tesla roadster killer with a possible 1700 hp

It’s been a long time since Elon Musk promised us the Tesla Roadster. In fact, it has been for so long that other brands are now competing. There is even plans to work on an electric Audi R8 in Ingolstadt.

Most electric cars currently come in the form of sedans and SUVs. Electric vehicles with a greater focus on the driving experience, such as convertibles and sports coupes, are delayed. If you don’t have patience, you’ll have to build a Tesla Roadster yourself.

New platform for electric Audi R8

You also have to wait a while for the electric sports car from Audi. The Volkswagen Group, which includes Audi, continues to use the MEB platform for its cars. Audi and Porsche have also developed the so-called PPE platform for the lake high-quality Models.

However, we are still waiting for Volkswagen’s scalable SSP platform, which is expected to be used from 2027. Ultimately, around 80 percent of all Volkswagen Group cars will be housed there. Oliver Hoffmann, head of the Audi technology department, indicated at the IAA in Munich that Audi wants to use this platform in particular in the development of its electric sports cars.

Tesla roadster competitor with 1,700 hp

An electric successor to the Audi R8 has not yet been confirmed by the brand itself. However, sources within the Audi team have already leaked to British Autocar that work is underway on this electric sports car. It is also clear that there will be no electricity shortage. The SSP platform could produce up to more than 1,700 horsepower. Enough to make life difficult for future Tesla Roadster owners.

All this news about a possible successor to the Audi R8 bodes well, but just like with the Tesla Roadster, we’ll have to be patient. Luckily, we don’t have to wait that long for the MG Cyberster, an electric convertible with gullwing doors! We didn’t see that with the budget brand.
