Almost 40 percent of Dutch people do not refill their own cars with window fluid

Cars are complicated products. All sorts of technologies come together that always have to work. Good maintenance is therefore important, but there are also many things you can do yourself. Nevertheless, almost 40 percent of Dutch people do not refill their windshield fluid themselves.
The lubricant manufacturer and Mercedes Formula 1 sponsor Petronas has investigated how (extensively) the Dutch maintain their cars.
The research was carried out by iVox on a representative sample of 1,000 Dutch people.
38 percent of Dutch people do not refill their windshield fluid themselves
It is therefore striking that 38 percent of Dutch people do not top up their windshield fluid themselves. Filling up is one of the easiest jobs to do on your car, unless you have an Alfa Romeo 4C. Nevertheless, 78 percent say they regularly carry out minor work on their car themselves, and 78 percent do. Women leave a few more tasks to the garage. 29 percent of women go to the workshop for small jobs. 15 percent of men do this.
Too little
Just like when refilling windshield washer fluid, the majority of Dutch people say they check the tire pressure themselves (57 percent). What is striking is that only 50 percent of Dutch people ever check the oil level in their car themselves. That’s not a good result. Too little oil in the engine has fatal consequences. Therefore, a monthly oil check is essential.
Tip: If you buy a used car and don’t know whether the car uses oil. Check the oil every time you refuel to prevent engine damage.
How far is it possible to carry out work on your car yourself? Most Dutch people draw the line at replacing the air filter. Only 2.2 percent of those surveyed said that they would replace them themselves. Logical, because replacing the air filter is much more difficult than, for example, changing the oil and refilling it. The air filter is simply part of a maintenance service that is often carried out by the workshop.
