SsangYong is begging for attention again after a long time. Or we want to try the new Torres, a completely new model. Detail: We will not receive this version with an internal combustion engine.
But since we don’t care about the Belgian charm (importer Astara is based in Kontich, near Antwerp), here’s a short report.
Can be ordered if you really want it
Of course, we asked with Dutch directness whether this Torres with 1.5 turbo engine would also come to the Netherlands, but the answer was: “The Torres ICE will not be officially on the price list in the Netherlands due to tax circumstances, but it can “Of course you can order it as a Dutch customer who really wants it.”
We have this cucumber sold to us and travel to the country where life seems to consist of a nice long lunch. Especially because the Torres is completely new and looks good and promising.
The SsangYong Torres is impressive
This really is one of those cars that makes you take a step back and take another good look at it. What do you actually see and is it really that cool? Are the proportions right?

Especially at SsangYong, which once claimed the title of “ugliest car of all time” with the Rodius. The hideous model was able to duel with the defending champion Pontiac Aztek. But that is a thing of the past, just like the brand name SangYong will soon be a thing of the past. Because the Koreans are in a hurry to make a fresh start in a market that is suffering from the Chinese storm that threatens to wipe out entire brands with hurricane force.

A new brand name can help with the restart, which is why SsangYong will now be called KG Mobility. So when the EVX launches in the first quarter of next year, we’ll have to call it the KGM EVX.
In every respect, a new beginning for the third Korean brand, which cannot stand in the shadow of sales leaders such as Kia and Hyundai due to a limited and unsuitable model range. In the past, it was the gray license plate versions of heavy off-road vehicles that we occasionally encountered here. The Torres with a 163 hp 1.5 turbo engine is much more modest, but still produces so much CO2 emissions that it has no chance here due to BPM pricing. While it is already available in Belgium with a starting price of 36,490 euros, here you should expect around 55,000 euros after the BPM surcharge.
