Several dozen climate activists drove onto the A12 in The Hague on Monday. The highway is therefore closed in both directions. As the action group Extinction Rebellion (XR) had already announced, a group of demonstrators took to the streets around midday for the third day in a row.
The protest on Monday is smaller than on the weekend.
The protest on the A12
It was particularly crowded on Saturday. Then thousands of people demonstrated on and around the Utrechtsebaan, as the section of the motorway is also called. On Sunday the road was blocked again by around a thousand people. XR says it wants to repeat the blockade daily, frustrating the municipality of The Hague.
The protest is directed against fossil subsidies. XR refers to all financial regulations with which the state makes the use of fossil fuels more economical.
