More than half of the cars look the same

SUVs are not only very popular in the Netherlands, the body style also sells well throughout Europe. In fact, there is no other type of car that sells better. More than 50 percent of the European market share is in the hands of SUVs.

In the first half of 2022, the share of SUVs in new cars sold was already 48 percent. This share has now risen to 51 percent in the past month.

SUVs are popular

Manufacturers have long recognized that sport utility vehicles are popular. For example, Lamborghini sells the Urus most often and Ferrari even has an SUV-like one. Renault, in turn, has decided to produce the Scenic and Espace SUVs. After all, MPVs are outdated.

No one can guess the most popular SUV as it is the best-selling car in Europe. The Tesla Model Y was sold 136,564 times in the first half of 2023. If we look at other SUVs, the Volkswagen ID.4, Ford Kuga, Volvo XC60, Lynk & Co. 01 and the Kia Sportage are also popular. The Volkswagen T-Roc also sold well at the beginning of the year.

Fortunately, there are still Europeans who don’t invest their money in a sport utility vehicle. For example, more than 123,000 Dacia Sanderos were sold in the first half of 2023.
