“What’s in the box?” we read on the Lego website. We immediately hear the voice of Brad Pitt receiving his wife’s head as a package in the film Se7en. Luckily, this Lego box only contains bricks to celebrate seventy years of Chevrolet Corvette.
Somewhat notably, Lego went for a 1961 model, meaning no tail fins and dual headlights and taillights.
The first Chevrolet Corvette was introduced in 1953
The first Corvette generation was presented in 1953. In its first year, just 300 examples rolled off the production line in Flint, Michigan, a city that twice came close to bankruptcy after the turn of the century, with skyrocketing crime rates and lead-contaminated drinking water.

Generation eight with suddenly the V8 engine in the rear
The Corvette was a huge success and is considered the only American sports car. In seventy years there have been eight generations, the last of which breaks with tradition and carries its eight-cylinder engine at the rear rather than at the front.
Original model with naturally aspirated six-cylinder in-line engine
In the first generation there was a straight six, but it was scrapped after three years because everyone ordered the V8 anyway. In 1961 – the year of this Lego model – the power source produced between 275 and 315 hp as standard.

32 cm tall Lego model with detachable hard top
You can see the eight-cylinder in this 32 centimeter long scale model. The bonnet and boot lid can be opened, and the hard top can be removed for a better view of the interior, containing all the pedals, a shift lever, an interior mirror and a radio.
Corvette with three different license plates
The kit consists of 1210 parts (18+ according to Lego) and includes three different license plates for the Corvette. The Lego set is of course not cheap. The Chevrolet will be available from August 3rd at a price of 149.99 euros.
