Enthusiasts looking for a fast Superstation will soon no longer have to resort to Audi for an RS6 or Mercedes-AMG for an E 63 station wagon. No, you can also order an M5 Touring from BMW.
Previously, BMW M did not produce that many models, instead concentrating more on sporty sedans. But now, in addition to the first M3 Touring, there will also be an M5 Touring.
BMW M5 Touring
A partially electric powertrain is used in the new BMW M5 and M5 Touring. In fact, it will be a plug-in hybrid. The super sedan and station wagon will reportedly feature a powertrain similar to that of the BMW XM Label Red.
Powertrain from BMW XM
Under the hood of this SUV is a 4.4-liter V8 assisted by an electric motor. This makes it the most powerful BMW of all time. The power is 748 hp and the maximum torque is 1,000 Nm.
The giant sprints from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 3.8 seconds. The regular XM makes 653 hp and 800 Nm of torque. And in the video below, Autovisie editor Dries van den Elzen shows that this “normal” implementation will soon take place.
This BMW XM is also the heaviest BMW ever. It weighs about 2.7 tons. This is partly due to the 29.5 kWh battery.
When can you expect the BMW M5 (Touring)?
Enough of the BMW XM. Because although the powertrain of the upcoming BMW M5 and M5 Touring may be similar to this model, it is a completely different car. The performance of the sportiest 5 Series is not yet known.

BMW will start testing the M5 in Munich in a few days. The model is scheduled to hit the market in 2024.
