In the Ford SuperVan 4.2, your Thuisbezorgd pizza never gets cold

You can track the courier in the Thuisbezorgd app. Usually you see the bike or moped driving slowly through the city. How different would it be if the Ford SuperVan 4.2 was used at the local pizza farm…

Well, earlier versions of the Ford SuperVan might have worked, but not this one. As you can see from the photos, the 4.2 only looks a little like the Transit from the front, but at the back the bus illusion is quickly destroyed by all sorts of aero elements.

The Ford SuperVan has a fifty-year tradition

The SuperVan 4.2 continues Ford’s long tradition of spooning crazy engines into vans. That started in 1971 with a Ford GT40 engine in a Transit and quickly expanded to the SuperVan 3, which had a real Formula 1 power source.

The latest version is fully electric

This version 4.2 has – how could it be otherwise? – a set of electric motors on board, which together produce 1416 hp. That’s less than the 2,000 horsepower of an earlier version of the SuperVan 4, but Ford says this new powertrain is optimized for climbing Pikes Peak.

Pikes Peak International Hill Climb

Because Ford will participate on June 25th. Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in Colorado has been around for over a hundred years. It used to be partly unpaved – watch the legendary Climb Dance film here – but today the 20-kilometer route with 156 bends is paved.

At the start, the SuperVan 4.2 appears with the French Pikes Peak expert Romain Dumas at the wheel. He won the event four times and holds the absolute course record with a time of just 7:57.148 minutes in the Volkswagen ID.R.

Battery dead within 35 kilometers

Ford says little about the powertrain of the SuperVan 4.2. We know that the SuperVan 4 battery will die within 35 kilometers. However, the degree of brake regeneration is enormous: no less than 600 kW.
