The electric Dacia Spring is a huge success. Around 120,000 copies have already been sold in Europe. Oddly enough, Dacia is in no hurry with its next electric vehicle, the fourth-generation Sandero, whose downsides have already been listed.
Disadvantage one: The electric Dacia Sandero will only come onto the market in 2027 or 2028. Disadvantage two: the range will not be great. And downside three: it can’t charge very quickly either.
Dacia wants to keep the price as low as possible
“We rely on a smaller range and longer charging times,” says Le Vot in an interview with Autocar, “because we want to keep the price low for the consumer.” He does not reveal how low.
Spring gets competition from the Citroën e-C3
With a starting price of 21,750 euros, the Dacia Spring is the cheapest electric car on the market. For this money you get a car with only 44 hp, a limited range of up to 230 kilometers and a charging speed of only 7 kW.
This year, however, the Spring will have competition from the Citroën e-C3, which will be presented in a few months with a range of 300 kilometers and a price of less than 25,000 euros. The future Dacia Sandero will be placed on the platform of the electric Renault 5.
The range is not that important at all
According to Le Vot, the range is not that important. The average Dacia Spring owner drives just 10 miles a day, he says. “If we [de Spring] I could have done it again, then I would have halved the battery.”
Le Vot thinks the Sandero could use sodium-ion batteries. “You could say they’re not optimal because they don’t store much energy and they weigh too much, but they’re cheap.”
