“Touch buttons in the interior are really stupid!” admits Volkswagen

In the age of big infotainment systems and touch-sensitive buttons, we appreciate physical buttons more and more. They can be found almost blind and are therefore much safer when out and about. Volkswagen is now also admitting this.
The Volkswagen Golf, ID.3 and ID.4, among others, have haptic steering buttons and unlit sliders that you can use to change the temperature of the air conditioning, for example. That’s nonsense, we’ve known that for a long time, but now VW boss Thomas Schäfer also knows it.
Bad for Volkswagen’s reputation
“[De knoppen] have done a lot of damage [aan onze reputatie], Schäfer said in an interview with Autocar. Therefore, future VWs will have simpler and more functional interiors.
No more sliders and haptic control buttons
The next-generation Tiguan is the prelude to this. It still has a big touchscreen and few physical buttons, but it says goodbye to the damn sliders and haptic control buttons
“Many of our customers were frustrated”
Volkswagen says it listens to buyers’ criticism. Schäfer: “Many of our customers were unacceptably frustrated. So we’ve put a lot of time and effort into making our interiors more user-friendly.”
Volkswagen ID.2 will be an important car
“I think we succeeded. You will see the result from the moment the ID.2 is launched. After that, our cars will be top-notch again.”
The ID.2 will come onto the market in 2025 and will be an important car for Volkswagen: an electric vehicle with a price of less than 25,000 euros and a range of up to 450 kilometers. Autovisie already took a look at the ID.2 prototype last March.
