That’s how pleasantly disturbed the participants of the International Volkswagen Bus Day are

The love of the classic Volkswagen bus runs deep among these Americans. We met her during International Volkswagen Bus Day in California.

Autovisie was located in the western United States prior to the introduction of the ID. Buzz LWB (the video of which is now on our Youtube channel) and in honor of International Volkswagen Bus Day.

The International Volkswagen Bus Day is an American invention

Jaco Bijlsma spoke to a number of enthusiastic, pleasantly distraught American enthusiasts who proudly talk about their VW buses. Not all are still standard, such as a faded, old van with a very short wheelbase.

A case in point of American hubris is the addition of the word “international” to the name International Volkswagen Bus Day, since the holiday is not celebrated outside the United States. The initiators of the holiday are Volkswagen America and the National Holiday Calendar.

Clear connection to California and of course to the Netherlands

The first International Volkswagen Bus Day was celebrated in Huntington Beach, California. This place fits the legendary Transporter, which is very popular in American surf culture.

Of course, there is also a clear connection to the Netherlands. The VW Transporter is the brainchild of Ben Pon, who drew the concept for it in a notepad while visiting the VW factory in Wolfsburg.

Seven generations of Volkswagen Transporter and ID. buzz

There have been seven generations of the Transporter since 1949. Among enthusiasts, the T1, T2 (1967) and T3 (1979) are the most popular. In the 1960s, the VW Beetle and the Transporter became symbols of hippie culture.

The ID Buzz is the electric continuation of the bus story. It has been on the market since last year and is mainly sold as a van in the Netherlands. Of the 2,000 units sold so far, 1,400 were of the Commercial type.
