New cars are becoming more and more expensive, which means that more and more people are dependent on used cars. The ideal used car can be determined using the figures from the sales sites Gaspedal.nl and AutoTrack.

In May, more than 10 percent of all investigators searched for used Volkswagen cars, making the automaker the most popular brand. The Volkswagen Golf is particularly popular. This model has been around since the 1970s, so we need to elaborate on it.

The most popular used car year

The figures from the sales sites show that used cars from 2018 are the most searched for (10.8 percent). So a seventh generation Volkswagen Golf. Other popular years of construction are: 2019 (9.3 percent), 2020 (9.1 percent) and 2017 (8.8 percent). So it seems that people are looking for a relatively recent used car.

Although diesels are becoming increasingly popular, petrol engines are still the most popular variant. A used 2018 Volkswagen Golf that runs on petrol, here we are. Although there appeared to be slightly more interest in manual transmissions in May, the vast majority of used car buyers (80.3 percent) strongly want an automatic transmission.

The most wanted color

But how many kilometers may the event have run at most? The largest group (14.4 percent) has a maximum odometer reading of 100,000 kilometers. This is followed by a group (8.9 percent) that has remarkably little experience: a maximum of 10,000 kilometers.

Price of the ideal occasion

After all, the used car must be a station wagon. 23.1 percent of all used car buyers are looking for it and thus push the hatchback (22.4 percent) from its short-lived throne. The average amount people are willing to pay for a used car was €19,658 in May. That means the ideal occasion is within budget. The prices are between 18,945 euros and 24,700 euros. The average used price in May was 24,005 euros. So it’s not just new cars that are getting more and more expensive.
