Recep Tayyip Erdogan wins the presidential election in Turkey

The current head of state, an Islamist Recep Tayyip Erdoganwon the second round of the presidential election this Sunday in Turkeyafter review of 54.60% votes, according to official sources.

After learning about these results, the Prime Minister Hungaryan ultranationalist Viktor Orbanhe congratulated Erdogan on his “unquestionable” victory.

“Congratulations to President Erdogan on his unquestionable election victory!” Orbán wrote in a tweet.

And more than an hour before the meeting, the emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thanihe congratulated Recep Tayyip Erdogan “on his victory” in the elections the country is celebrating today when voting was still underway and the winner of the second round was not yet known.

Last May 14 none of the candidates received the necessary majority to become the head of state in the first round of presidential elections, which were held together with legislative elections.

That day, Erdogan won by an absolute majority, receiving 49.5% of the vote, compared to 44.9% for Kiliçdaroglu, with a voter turnout of 89% on Turkish territory and 86% if the more than three million citizens living in abroad.

Polling stations were open for nine hours this Sunday, between 08:00 and 17:00 local time (05:00 and 14:00 GMT) to allow 61 million people to vote.
