Verstappen in Senna’s footsteps: Alfa-Sauber no chance, Geburi slap in the face for Vasseur

The last year with title sponsor Alfa will probably no longer be a success story. The defense of 6th place in the World Cup is getting further and further away after Monaco. Now one can only hope that the “new” C43 will be faster next Sunday in Barcelona.

Thanks Rain and Tsunoda

The fans should not expect miracles from positions 15 (Bottas) and 19 (Zhou). Only the rain brought Bottas (11th) and Zhou (13th) back into the game. In addition, Tsunoda (9th place over 60 laps) suddenly developed brake problems in the Alpha Tauri-Honda and was forced to pass six cars.

The Hinwiler still have six points, Alpha Tauri keeps it at two. This is about 8th place in the World Cup.

Good strategy for the first time

The strategy at the first stop of Bottas in the pits, who had been chasing De Vries without a chance for almost an hour in the Alpha Tauri, was right: the Finn immediately got the green intermediate rubber, so that the ten-time GP winner could attack a bit more. In the end only Norris (9th) and Magnussen (19th) turned a slower lap time! Bottas: “We need to look better in Barcelona!”

At Alfa-Sauber, of course, everything was viewed from the positive side. Team representative Alunni Brav: “No team has won more places than us compared to qualifying!” But even that wasn’t enough.

Blow for birthday Vasseur

The Monaco GP was also bitter for Ferrari. The team from Maranello could have given their team boss Frédéric Vasseur a special gift for his 55th birthday. When opening gifts, Vasseur has only a tired smile: 6th Leclerc, 8th Sainz. The pedestal in the distance.

Alonso annoys the boys

Veteran champion Fernando Alonso (41) in the Aston Martin-Mercedes, on the other hand, finished on the podium for the sixth time in the sixth race of the season. Only in Azerbaijan did he just miss fourth place. The two-time world champion: “It’s a pleasure to annoy the boys again.”

Verstappen misses two wins over Senna

Who Alonso means, among others, may be clear. Two-time world champion Max Verstappen has already achieved his 39th GP victory in Monaco. He misses two to overtake Formula 1 legend Ayrton Senna († 34).
