Official: Donald Trump wants to run again in 2024 elections Israel’s newly elected parliament meets for the first time

Former US President Donald Trump wants to run again for the Republicans in the 2024 presidential election. Trump announced this on Tuesday evening (local time) during a performance at his estate Mar-a-Lago in the state of Florida.

“America’s comeback begins now,” the 76-year-old said to guests in a room. Trump lost the 2020 election to Democrat Joe Biden and left the White House after one term. To this day, Trump has not admitted his electoral defeat.

According to the American news portal CNN, Trump has previously submitted the necessary documents to the Central American Election Commission.

In his speech, the Republican praised performance during his 2017-2021 term and lamented that the country has gone steeply downhill since Biden took office. “Soon we will be a great nation again,” Trump said.

His announcement comes just a week after the US general and gubernatorial elections, in which the Republicans, contrary to expectations, failed to win a spectacular victory. Trump, who loudly interfered in the election campaign and publicly supported numerous right-wing candidates, is blamed for the poor result. That could now complicate his project: because in order to actually run as his party’s official candidate for the 2024 presidential election, Trump must assert himself in internal primaries of the party.

For example, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis could become a threat to Trump. The 44-year-old was confirmed in office with a strong result in the midterm elections. While DeSantis represents similarly hardline stances, it seems less stark in its public image. And other Republicans should now feel emboldened to step out of cover. Trump Vice President Mike Pence distanced himself from him, saying he was considering running and would be willing to run against his former boss. From the more moderate corner of the party, Virginia governor Glenn Youngkin was able to run.

Trump served as President of the United States from 2017 to 2021. In the United States, a person can serve two terms, consecutive or not. Trump would be 78 years old in just over two years.

To this day, Trump refuses to admit defeat to Biden in the 2020 presidential election. He claims to have been robbed of victory by mass electoral fraud, but has never provided any proof. At the time, Biden had 81 million votes and a clear majority of voters from the states. More than 74 million Americans voted for Trump at the time. Biden finally replaced Trump in the White House on January 20, 2021.

Shortly before the end of his term, angry Trump supporters violently stormed the Capitol in Washington after a presidential rally on January 6, where Congress was at the time about to officially seal Biden’s victory. Trump then faced a second impeachment trial in Congress, where he was charged with “incitement to sedition” for publicly provoking his supporters in the speech before the attack. However, the two-thirds majority needed for a conviction in the Senate was missed and Trump was eventually acquitted.

A committee of inquiry in the US House of Representatives is investigating the attack on the Capitol. Several witnesses have heavily charged Trump with their statements. This also raised the question of possible legal ramifications for the ex-president. He refused to comply with a subpoena from the commission for questioning.

On several other fronts, Trump is already embroiled in legal battles that could put him at risk. Adversity threatened him in one place in particular: FBI federal police searched Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate on Aug. 8, seizing confidential and sometimes top secret documents, among other things. Since Trump kept government papers, some of which are subject to strict protections due to their sensitive content, in his private estate, he may have broken the law. The investigation against him is still ongoing.

Trump denied the allegations and criticized the authorities’ actions against him as politically motivated — and as an attempt to prevent him from running for office. (con/sda/dpa)
