“Top Gun 2: Maverick” hits theaters on May 26, 2022 and has since grossed nearly $1.5 billion worldwide – a result hardly anyone could have dreamed of before. But maybe you just underestimated how much fans love Tom Cruise and Top Gun. This can currently be seen in an Easter egg that is actually very well hidden, but has now been discovered by a Twitter user.
The user with the profile name namely posted on Twitter two short clips of “top gun‘ and ‘Top Gun 2’, proving that the beach soccer scene from the sequel reused an audio clip from the beach volleyball scene from ‘Top Gun’:
Showcasing this obvious yet surprisingly well-hidden connection between the two movies is her favorite party trick, as @msmegalodon explained, not realizing her post would have a much bigger impact. The first thing to respond was the Top Gun: Maverick editor Eddie Hamilton on it, congratulated her and confirmed that this was a deliberate nod to the original:
Hamilton also wrote that this Easter egg, As far as he knows, no one else noticed and her time in the “(i.e. her period of pride and complacency) should enjoy.
And that is almost impossible to avoid, because also “Top Gun 2” screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie replied to @msmegalodon’s post. He wrote: “Tom [Cruise] and I was very impressed when Eddie showed us this this morning at breakfast.
And just in case you’re wondering how many times you have to watch Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick to notice this audio Easter egg, @msmegalodon has of course already asked the question on Twitter. She has seen both films about five times, she writesand watched the beach scene in part 2 more often to analyze how it was edited.
If you want to see “Top Gun: Maverick” again (or for the first time), you can (as mentioned at the beginning) still do so in the cinema. Studio Paramount has also announced that the film will be re-released in theaters on December 1, 2022 with the addition of a victory lap. However, it is still unclear if and how this version will differ from the first release.
In addition, “Top Gun 2” is of course also available in the home theater – everything else you can read in the following article:
