After the wiretapping scandal in Germany, secret service agents worried about further leaks: Chancellor Scholz is a “useful idiot”

Russia is said to have intercepted a secret conversation between generals of the German Bundeswehr about ‘Taurus’ cruise missiles.

This was not intended for the public: internally and very openly, senior officers of the German Air Force discussed the theoretical possibilities of using German Taurus cruise missiles by Ukraine. Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius explained on Tuesday that an “individual application error” was the cause. Preliminary disciplinary investigations have been launched against all people involved in the conversation. The defense minister dismissed speculation that a Russian spy could be involved in the conversation.

Pistorius explained that according to the interim results of the investigation in Singapore, there had been a data breach. A participant there did not adhere to the requirements for secure dialing.

For Scholz, the publication is bitter in two respects

Fears are growing among intelligence experts that the German military leaks could be just the beginning. “Normally, successful eavesdropping operations are not made public so as not to damage the source,” former BND boss August Hanning (78) told “Bild”. But Russia wants to harm Germany. Therefore, further publications could follow. Hanning: “This leak could have been just the tip of the iceberg.”

Hanning is not alone in secret service circles with his opinion. Germany was specifically chosen, a source told the British newspaper Telegraph. The country was identified as the ‘weakest link’ and Chancellor Olaf Scholz (65) as a ‘useful idiot’ who would harm the West.

For Scholz, the publication is bitter in two respects. On the one hand, it was apparently successful in spying on the Bundeswehr. On the other hand, the content of the conversation raises doubts about Scholz’s reasons for rejecting a Taurus delivery. According to the leaked conversation, Ukraine could very well operate the cruise missiles without German soldiers on the ground.

Russians use the conversation for propaganda

The Military Counterintelligence Service (MAD) must clarify the internal background. Politically, there are three scenarios in the room: The Union has already requested a special meeting of the Defense Committee and demands that Scholz appear there in person. She also demands a government statement. CSU regional faction leader Alexander Dobrindt (53) and CDU foreign policy expert Jürgen Hardt (60) also did not want to rule out a parliamentary investigation committee.

Russian representatives are trying to exploit the intercepted conversation for their side. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, 73, said the conversation showed “that the war camp in Europe is still very, very strong” and that Russia must be dealt a “strategic defeat on the battlefield.” (AFP/jmh)
