They agree that the economy in Germany must be stimulated: Finance Minister Christian Lindner (left) and Economic Affairs Minister Robert Habeck.

Instead of growth, there is currently a downward trend in Germany. The economy has problems. She shrinks. Recession! That is why a solution is needed quickly. Finance Minister Christian Lindner (45) put the situation in Germany in drastic words about the ARD program “Report from Berlin”: “If we do nothing, Germany will become poorer because there will be no growth. And no one can be satisfied with that.”

He also has an idea of how to stop this development – with a five-point plan. Lindner: “I propose to put together a package that includes the labor market, climate protection, energy costs, reduction of bureaucracy and tax relief.”

“Such a reduction would only affect the federal budget”

At the same time, taxpayers in Germany should be relieved. His suggestion: abolish the solidarity surcharge. “This step would ease the burden on our businesses internationally.” The solidarity pact expired in 2019, but solidarity remained intact for entrepreneurs and high earners. The surcharge was originally introduced in 1995 to rebuild the East after reunification.

Abolishing this contribution is an important measure. Lindner continued, “Such a reduction would only affect the federal budget without tapping into the financial resources of the states and municipalities.” It’s time to act.

“I’m with Christian Lindner”

On the other hand, Economic Affairs Minister Robert Habeck (54) is proposing a corporate tax reform to ease the burden on companies in Germany. The two ministers agree that something must be done. The only question is what measures should be taken.

“I agree with Christian Lindner: we must do more for growth and economic dynamism. That is why I am happy to work with Christian Lindner on a dynamization package,” Habeck told “Welt am Sonntag”. He had just introduced suggestions for this in the “joint government work”. (jmh/AFP)
