Lifesaver is not allowed inside: cancer patient risks death due to nonsense from the authorities

Arthur Yu suffers from blood cancer. His lifesaver is not allowed to enter.

Arthur Yu (41) has already undergone four chemotherapy treatments. The father of the family from the American state of California suffers from a serious form of leukemia. He was diagnosed in March last year and has been fighting for his life ever since.

“I noticed something was wrong when I walked from my car to the door,” he said in an interview with “ABC 7.” He, who used to run marathons, suddenly got an alarm on his smartwatch. “My heart rate was about 130, 140 beats per minute. I was breathing as if I had just run a long distance.” Upon clarification it turns out that it is cancer.

Authorities deny entry

Despite numerous therapies, Yu does not feel better after the therapies. On the contrary: the doctors determined that he only had a few months left to live. The only way out: a bone marrow donation.

A suitable donor can indeed be found. A cousin in the Philippines agrees to save Yu’s life. But when he applied for a visa to enter the country, the application was rejected: “Critical documents” were missing, according to “ABC 7” in the justification given by US authorities.

An appeal to the senator is successful

“We were amazed at how quickly his visa was denied – and the fact that we are then faced with an insurmountable obstacle is extremely frustrating.” The family does not have time to submit all the documents. “We are talking about a period of about a year – I cannot survive that long without a bone marrow donation,” says the cancer patient.

Desperate, Yu turns directly to US Senator Alex Padilla (50). Successfully. After a few days he receives a letter from the politician’s office. The promise: they want to continue the necessary processes as quickly as possible so that Yu’s lifesaver can quickly enter the US.

But how long that will last remains unclear. Meanwhile, Arthur Yu spends a lot of time with his 14-month-old son. “I am aware that there may not be enough time,” the 41-year-old said. “That’s why I want to be there for my son. Like a normal, normal father.” (zis)
