While hiking at the Sunset Cliffs in San Diego County, California, a man falls into a mini crevice and becomes stuck there. Rescuers later reported that the man survived for at least three days, repeatedly screaming for help – to no avail.
Suddenly, walkers hear the man’s cries for help. They alert the emergency services, NBC San Diego reports. They determine: The man is trapped between heavy concrete slabs and is stuck from the waist down. The opening is only 45 centimeters wide.
Bad weather and the difficult to reach location make the use of heavy equipment impossible. The fire brigade explained on Platform X that the scene was “extremely treacherous for the rescuers.”
A rescuer eventually manages to get into a tunnel under the man. But the plan to free the man from below fails. The flood is coming, the rescuer must get himself to safety. The fire brigade provides the man with thermal blankets until the rescue operation can continue.
The Christmas miracle only takes place on Friday after about 7 p.m. The man can be saved. Photos show the man being lifted by a winch. According to media reports, he was taken to hospital for a check-up and suffered only minor injuries. (zis)
