In a joint statement, the body strongly condemned the attacks on civilians and the spread of the conflict “into areas where large numbers of internally displaced persons, refugees and asylum seekers live.”

The UN Security Council called on parties to the conflict to allow “rapid, safe and unhindered humanitarian access throughout Sudan.” He also condemned an attack on an International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) convoy on December 10 and called for “increasing humanitarian aid to Sudan.”

In the North African crisis state, the forces of military ruler Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the RSF militia of his former deputy Mohamed Hamdan Daglo have been involved in a bloody power struggle since mid-April. According to estimates, more than 12,000 people were killed.

According to the latest UN figures, more than seven million people are displaced in the country, and in addition to internally displaced persons, another 1.5 million are displaced in neighboring countries.

According to the UN Security Council, the fighting has also spread since last week to the town of Wad Madani in the east of the country, where thousands of people from the capital Khartoum, 180 kilometers away, had fled – and who have now had to flee again.

Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for UN Secretary-General António Guterres, said on Thursday, citing an International Organization for Migration (IOM) report, that up to 300,000 people had fled Wad Madani. The ‘displacement crisis’ in Sudan is the ‘largest in the world’.
