On October 7, hundreds of Hamas fighters entered Israel. They kidnapped about 240 people and killed 1,200 others, according to Israel. In response to the major attack, Israel launched an extensive military operation in the Gaza Strip. According to the Gaza health authority, more than 12,000 Palestinians have been killed so far. The end of the bloody war is not yet in sight.

Part of the Israeli military operation is a large-scale ground offensive. Lieutenant Colonel Salman Chabaka (†33) was also involved. The Israeli soldier fell in northern Gaza in early November. Since then, Israel has mourned the loss of the former commander of the 53rd Battalion of the 188th Armored Brigade.

Chabaka was one of the highest-ranking Israeli officers killed in the war to date. Numerous military officers and politicians were present at his funeral. Including former president Reuven Rivilin (84). To them and his family, Chabaka died a hero.

He killed countless Hamas fighters

Because on October 7, he was one of the first soldiers to arrive in Kibbutz Be’eri. He killed numerous Hamas fighters there and was involved in rescuing civilians. He later told Israeli media that the “scenes were very bad.” He further emphasized: “But we saw that we had one main task: to rescue the remaining residents and kill as many terrorists as possible. We went from house to house and took out the terrorists.”

As the war progressed, Chabaka was sent to Gaza. There he would evacuate a group of elite soldiers with his tank. He did not survive this mission. The soldier leaves behind a two-year-old son and his wife. The relatives tell ‘Bild’ about their grief.

‘He drove into Kibbutz Be’eri in his tank. He has killed many, many terrorists. His tank gave the people there hope. Those who heard his chains calmed down, because they knew: the army is here. He is a hero,” father Imad (60) told the newspaper. Mother Marwaba also says she is proud of her son. At the same time, she worries about her grandson: “He has a two-year-old son and he asks about him all the time. What should I tell him?”

Chabaka is from the city of Yanih-Yat. Thousands of Druze live there. He himself also belonged to the religion, which arose from Islam and philosophical teachings. Two rabbis, among others, spoke at Chabaka’s funeral. One of them said: “The brotherhood between Jews and Druze should be an example for all humanity.” (Mrs)
