Russia attacks port facilities and museum in Odessa – several injured. German TV veteran Hans Meiser dies

The Russian military carried out rocket and drone attacks on the southern Ukrainian regions of Kherson and Odessa on Monday evening. The port city of Odessa in particular was targeted by the attackers.

At least eight people were injured in drone strikes on port facilities and rocket fire in the city center, military governor Oleh Kiper said. Twenty multi-storey residential towers and the National Art Museum were also damaged in the city centre. The museum, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, celebrates its 124th anniversary on Monday.

According to the Ukrainian military, Moscow is said to have fired Oniks cruise missiles, Iskander-M missiles and so-called kamikaze drones of Iranian design from Crimea’s Black Sea peninsula, which was annexed in 2014. Accordingly, 15 of the 22 drones were intercepted.

The southern Ukrainian region of Kherson was also the target of Russian attacks. However, no one was injured there that night. According to Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, the Russians have dropped 87 guided aerial bombs over the region in the past 24 hours – a record number since the beginning of the Russian invasion more than 20 months ago.
