Last weekend, a group of young people mocked two police officers in their car on Frankfurt’s shopping street and prevented them from driving.

One puts his foot on the police car, another sticks his butt out to the law enforcement officers. There are probably few people who dare to do that. But according to ‘Bild’, young people did exactly that in Frankfurt last weekend.

A 20-second video that has spread like wildfire on the Internet shows a group of young people mocking the police after hours on the Zeil shopping street in Frankfurt. Two officers in their police car are laughed at and mocked by at least fifteen young people.

“Not a threatening situation”

Some of them provocatively stand in front of the car and prevent the police from continuing their journey. All around them they are cheered by a cheering crowd.

The police handle the incident fairly calmly. ‘This is a patrol car from the 1st police station. The two colleagues were then able to continue their journey unhindered,” police spokesman Marc Draschl told “Bild”.

Draschl continued that there was no threatening situation or material damage during the incident with the “dancing young people”. “The person who pulled the trigger overdid it.” However, no personal data was recorded.

“Growing disrespect for the police”

The state chairman of the police union in Hesse, Jens Mohrherr (55), does not take the matter relaxed. For him it is clear: “The video shows the increasing disrespect towards the police in our society.”

The number of attacks on police officers has increased by 20 percent in the past decade, the union official said. In Hesse alone, police officers were attacked approximately 4,000 times in 2022.

He is full of praise for the two affected police officers from Frankfurt. “They behaved very carefully, thoughtfully and in a de-escalating manner,” Mohrherr said. He is convinced that it could have ended very differently. “The provocation was in the air.” (ced)
