This is the actual consumption of the Honda ZR-V

Autovisie not only tests electric cars for their range and consumption, we also measure what they consume in practice compared to gasoline and hybrid cars. This time we are testing how economical the new Honda ZR-V is.

The difference between the manufacturer’s information and the actual consumption is large for some cars. For this reason, Autovisie tests the actual average consumption in practice with the air conditioning and radio on. This will give you a better idea of how economical the car really is.

The Honda ZR-V

Honda has decades of experience with hybrid drives that actually achieve low fuel consumption in practice. But how economical is the drive train really in practice?

We drive the Honda ZR-V Full Hybrid Advance. This is the code language for a total output of 184 hp on the driven front wheels. At its heart is a continuously variable transmission that acts as a conductor for a 143-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder and two electric motors. A large one with 184 horsepower and a smaller one that also functions as a generator.

Prices start at 48,375 euros for the Elegance and end at 53,250 euros for the Advance.

Several purely electric drive combinations are possible, in which the 2.0-liter gasoline engine leaves the main role to the electric motor and the four-cylinder uses a generator to charge the battery. But above 100 kilometers per hour, the Honda ZR-V’s drive increasingly comes from the combustion engine, because otherwise the electric motor would have to run at too high a speed.

The actual consumption

The effect is noticeable because above this the speed decreases up to 100 kilometers per hour. The great thing: Thanks to the continuously variable transmission, the different compositions flow perfectly into one another, so that you hardly notice what exactly is happening. Additionally, it sounds good at full acceleration with the crisp roar of the four-cylinder, and there are artificial gears to keep the sound in sync with acceleration. With the bonus of a fantastic fuel economy of 1:20.8 on our Ecorun over 100 kilometers at all imaginable speed limits.

WLTP consumption average 5.8L/100km
Measured consumption 4.8L/100km
Range (WLTP/measured) 1,188km
Ecolabel b
CO2 emission 130g/km
