“An accident? An accident is when I think I’m going to fart and then pee my pants. This is a little more than an accident, my friends…” writes a user on X (formerly Twitter). He responds to a call from the US Marine Air Base Charleston for help.
“We are working with MCAS Beaufort SC to locate an F-35 that was involved in an accident this afternoon. The pilot ejected safely. If you have information that could help our recovery teams locate the F-35, please call the Base Defense Operations Center at 843-963-3600,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, a stream of ridicule erupts online. Users on the news platform X (formerly Twitter) joke about the so-called ‘accident’ in the comments and post creative memes. For example, an edited selfie of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, with the missing plane behind him. The photo is captioned: “Have you looked in Ukraine?”
Other users post self-designed posters of missing people. One of them has a drawing from the well-known book series ‘Where is Walter?’ incorporated. However, the headline is: “Where is our F-35?” The fighter jet can be seen in the background. Another user asks with a fake eBay ad: “Is this by any chance this one?”
There are other strange tips about Yet another reads: “Sign in to iCloud, go to ‘find my F-35’ and follow the loud ping tone.”
The announcement by the air force also causes some unrest. “Wait, wait, wait. The US military’s most modern plane has simply disappeared? No tracking device on board? Can’t you go to where the pilot got off and look for the crash? We’d be losing a war,” is one of the comments We can only hope that the missing fighter plane turns up soon. (gs)
