This Russian tourist could have helped Ukraine achieve great success. He positioned himself in front of the Russian S400 missile defense system.

According to Ukrainian information, several Russian S300 and S400 missile defense systems were hit and destroyed by Ukrainian missiles on Thursday. According to experts, the destruction of the systems on the Russian-annexed Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea represents a serious blow to the Russian military.

A Russian tourist, of all people, could have helped the Ukrainians locate the systems. About a year ago he posed in front of the defense system in swimming trunks. He posted the photo along with the location on social media.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense eventually shared the image on X, formerly Twitter, writing: “Maybe we are too strict with Russian tourists… Sometimes they can be very helpful. Like this man who took a photo in front of an air defense system in Yevpatoria in occupied Crimea. Thank you very much and keep it up!”

Russian Governor Mikhail Razvoshayev then called on residents of the city of Sevastopol via Telegram to be careful. You are not allowed to post photos and videos that could help Ukraine.

The missile defense system was worth $1.2 billion

Thursday’s Ukrainian attack initially targeted a radar system. “The naval units then fired two Neptune cruise missiles at the $1.2 billion Triumph S300 and S400 systems,” a Ukrainian source told the BBC. The missiles are a Ukrainian development and were actually developed for ship attacks. As the BBC reports, they have been converted so that they can also be used on the ground.

The shooting down of the missile defense systems was not confirmed by Russia. Instead, Moscow reported that eleven drones had been shot down. (Mrs)
