Strong statement against sexualized violence: Yannik Zamboni (37) this week launched a wash label with an unusual print in the new “DNA” collection of his own brand Maison Blanche. Instead of information on how to wash the clothing, it says “Do not wash if you have been sexually assaulted.”
“The idea came up with two friends,” Zamboni says in an interview with Blick. “They both had cases of sexual abuse. Legal action could not be taken due to lack of evidence.” To give those affected by sexual violence ideas about what to do after such an attack, he and an agency launched “Anti-Crime Labels” – wash labels that are now sewn onto their clothes.
“Washing your clothes after a sexual assault is deadly,” says Yannik Zamboni, who won Heidi Klum’s (50) show “Making The Cut” last year. It is an important process for many of those affected to take a shower and wash their clothes after what they have experienced. “You should wait and contact the police or healthcare provider directly.” There is also a QR code on the labels that directs you to the “Crime Fighting Labels” site. It is also recommended that evidence be stored in a paper bag instead of a plastic bag. Zamboni says the plastic will cover the tracks.
The subject is very close to the Basel designer. “It’s about injustice. And I know a lot of people who are affected by it,” he says. “When I hear that 97 percent of rapists are free and only 10 percent of victims report it to the police, I understand that there is still a lot to be done.”
She is a survivor of sexual violence. «When I became a model as a young man, some people groped me. “But luckily I was always confident enough to defend myself,” he says. If he needs to do something to the clothes the models are wearing, he always asks for permission first.
Zamboni’s new collection was introduced at New York Fashion Week at the beginning of the week. The show at The Box nightclub was opened by a half-naked model wearing a plus-size version of the political label. For Zamboni, it’s clear this isn’t the last time he’ll want to integrate the label into his own fashion. “From now on, it will always be a part of my collection,” he says. “Unfortunately, the issue remains current. I would like to make a statement about it.”
