After American actress Drew Barrymore (48) resumed her talk show despite the ongoing strike of screenwriters and actors in Hollywood, the organizers of the National Book Awards have taken away her moderating job. Organizers announced on Wednesday evening that Barrymore’s invitation to moderate the prestigious literary awards ceremony, scheduled for November, would be withdrawn. “Our commitment is to ensure that the focus of the event remains on celebrating authors and books.” It was initially unknown who would take over.
Barrymore announced this weekend that despite the strikes, she wants to resume her talk show, in which she has spoken to other celebrities since 2020. “I support this decision,” the actress wrote on Instagram. She wants to stick to not discussing or promoting films or television programs that are on strike. There was much public criticism and protests at the time in front of the show’s studios in New York.
The Writers Guild’s more than 11,000 screenwriters have been on strike since early May, and actors have also been on strike since July. They demand, among other things, better rewards and rules for the use of artificial intelligence. There are no signs that the strike will end anytime soon. (sda/dpa)
