Due to the severe storms in Central Greece, hundreds of people spent the night on the ‘Superstar’ ferry in the sea off the port city of Volos.
Also in the morning, the ship of shipping company Seajets was still a few nautical miles from the port, as can be seen on the seafaring platform for maritime traffic. According to media reports, the port police of Volos had forbidden the ferry from docking because the port was previously flooded and the traffic situation in the city is so difficult.
The airport on the Sporades island of Skiathos was also badly hit, according to airport spokesman Savvas Karagiannis, several hundred people also had to spend the night there. “A plane is trying to land – we have to see how it goes,” said Karagianis of the German news agency. He could not say when the airport will be fully operational again. “Unbelievable amounts of water have come down, the access roads have been closed,” he said. The people would be provided with food and water. (SDA)
