In the US-Republican competition for president, the date for the first preliminary decision has been set. On January 15, 2024, as is customary in Iowa, voters will decide their favorites at party rallies, the state’s Republican Party announced Saturday. At these meetings, the participants vote which candidate they find most attractive.

The Republican field is broad: former US President Donald Trump, his then Vice President Mike Pence and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, among others, have positioned themselves.

The Democrats had changed their primary calendar at the request of President Joe Biden, who is running for president again. Now, instead of Iowa, South Carolina is scheduled to open for the first time on February 3, 2024. The goal is to prioritize a state with a more diverse population.

However, New Hampshire has filed an internal process to land before South Carolina because the New Hampshire Constitution provides for it. The result of the first primaries is considered to be of particular importance because of the initially very high interest from the media and the population and can influence later decisions.
