A changed being can be frightening. The Briton Shaun Turner (38) also felt that. His libido was permanently increased. In addition, he was constantly irritable. After a doctor’s visit it was clear: the symptoms have a serious background. Turner suffered from a rare brain tumor.
“I’m usually very relaxed and have a lot of energy,” the 38-year-old told British media. The tumor completely changed this picture. He was “always horny”, tired and aggressive. He also gradually lost his sight and sense of smell.
On the advice of his wife, the Brit went to the ophthalmologist. The doctor discovered disturbing discrepancies in his examinations and the father of two was referred to a brain specialist. Then the shock: An orange-sized tumor was discovered in the 38-year-old’s head. “It didn’t feel real,” Turner says of his diagnosis. It was already made in 2014, but the Briton only now went public with it. “All my family and friends were so concerned that I was unable to show any weakness or let myself be influenced.”
However, he tried to keep a positive attitude and believed that he would be fine. Inside, however, he would have been very scared.
Turner had to undergo major surgery shortly after being diagnosed. With success: the tumor could be largely removed. The small remains could also be removed by means of radiotherapy more than three years ago.
Particularly tragically, Turner’s family recently suffered a severe blow of fate. The 38-year-old’s mother also suffered from a rapidly growing brain tumor.
Her form of the disease also presents itself with similar symptoms. In addition to dizziness and vomiting, this type of tumor can also cause irritability and disorientation. Turner’s mother was initially accused of having a “mental breakdown” before finally being properly diagnosed. Unfortunately, it was too late: four months later she lost her battle with cancer.
“It was shocking that our family had to endure two such cases,” Turner’s brother told British media. According to the doctors responsible, this was just bad luck. The British charity organization “Brain Tumor Research” also commented on the case. It is extremely rare for the disease to occur twice in the same family. The odds would be less than one in a million. (A)
