According to the police, a woman in Austria locked her son in a dog box and almost tortured him to death.
The 32-year-old is suspected of attempted murder and is in custody, a spokesman for the Lower Austrian police confirmed. The daily newspaper “Kurier” had previously reported on the case in the northern Waldviertel region.
The woman would have locked her then twelve-year-old child in a dog box and let it starve. In addition, she poured cold water on the boy several times and opened the windows of the apartment when the temperature dropped below zero, it was said. A social worker called the rescue on November 23 last year. The mother was subsequently arrested, according to a police spokesperson for the German news agency. For reasons of victim protection, the authorities did not make the case public at the time.
The malnourished and neglected boy had a body temperature of only 26.8 degrees, Baumschlager said. “He fell into a coma and was in mortal danger,” he said. Since then, the child has recovered physically, but not yet mentally. (SDA)
