7 brilliant inspirations every car needs

From the integrated fuel filler cap without removing the cap, to the parking ticket holder on the inside of the windshield once invented by Saab and popularized by Skoda: the little, smart little things help a lot. Some details can be found quite often – and we want that for the following seven:

1. Mercedes’ red light camera

Mercedes debuted it in the A-Class and now installs it on all new models: something unknown the engineer came up with an ingenious idea when there was a 360-degree camera and usually a front camera for assistance, and the navigation system knew all the traffic lights. Why don’t you automatically zoom out and show the front image in red light? Since then, you no longer need to turn your head to see red and green when standing in front of a red light.

2. Kia’s turn signal camera

Hyundai-Kia has also revealed clever additional use of cameras that are already available and will be used in more Group models after launch, for example in the Kia Sorento and shortly thereafter in the Hyundai Tucson: Flashing (and sometimes blind spot) warning), activates an exterior mirror cam display on the corresponding Page in the instrument cluster. So you can see the bikes, mopeds and also the sides of the pavement.

3. Skoda’s call protector

You can fill the entire list with Skoda’s “Simply Clever” details: the ice scraper in the fuel filler cap, the charging plug that can be unlocked when charging is complete, the glass in the door – and, and, and. What we love about the new Fabia: There are usually pen and card holders, but you usually have to look for them first. Here you can find them exactly where you need them – front in the middle.

4. Ford’s edge protectors

Almost every car gets ugly hiccups on the door sills at some point: bumper strips are often the wrong height. And who wants ugly sticker edge protectors from hardware store accessories? Invented by Ford’s Focus and later used elsewhere, the guard is ingenious: when the door is opened, a normally concealed guard folds over the edge. This way it looks good when the door is closed and still provides a clear edge.

5. Opel’s eye protection

The Matrix LED light is great and much better than the simple automatic high beam switch-off: at night the high beam is always on – and the system “cuts” the light cone without dazzling others. However: On the highway, this does not apply to all truck drivers in oncoming traffic. They sit high in high beam as the sensor “looks” at the truck’s lights because of the crash barrier. Opel noticed the left-hand system in the new Corsa from 105 km/h and turned it off.

6. Skoda’s dream wiper

Skoda again? Yes, because the idea is good. The rear window of hatchback cars gets wet in the rain. Is the rear wiper on? Then it dries very quickly in the drizzle, often very frequent even in between breaks. That’s why turning it on and off manually over and over – it’s so tedious. Except for the Skoda, for example on the Karoq (pic). If the front wipers are working, the rear wipers don’t wipe very often, they just do it occasionally. That’s enough for a clear view.

7. Peugeot’s wish keys

We often want the buttons back, as touchscreens have messy menus and can never be freely configured. But it fits the Peugeot 308 perfectly: a small additional display offers five virtual, freely assignable and wonderfully large touch buttons. Regardless of the functions you are currently using, you can always find important functions instantly on the big screen (also freely configurable). Please imitate! On the side: the volume button is also a godsend here, too often replaced by cunning buttons these days.
