60 years of Lamborghini, 60 years of super sports cars. Blick has compiled the coolest, prettiest and most exclusive models of each decade.
Lorenzo Fulvi

It all started with tractors, not sports cars, at Lamborghini in 1948. Until 1963, the founder of the company, Ferruccio Lamborghini (1916-1993), due to a dispute with the founder of Ferrari, Enzo Ferrari, decided to create super sports cars for the road, rather than commercial vehicles for the field, under the name Automobili Lamborghini, according to legend (1898-1988) – so to speak A neighbor of Lamborghini. The clash would become a godsend for all sports car fans: smooth, strong as an ox, super fast – these are the attributes of Lamborghinis that have been known all over the world to this day. We’ve rounded up six of the coolest models in the company’s decades-old history.

one

miura

Miura was the name of the young brand’s third model in 1966 (after the 350 GT and 400 GT) – fans still consider it the most beautiful Lamborghini of all time. Penned by design legend Marcello Gandini (84), the aerodynamic sports car is the first Lamborghini named after a bull – a tradition Lambo has continued to this day. Depending on the variant, the transversely mounted 3.9-liter V12 mid-engine, produced between 350 hp and 415 hp, enables the Miura, which weighs only 1200 kilograms, to reach 296 km/h.

2

to count

The equally legendary Countach was presented in 1973 as the successor to the Miura. This sports car legend was also created by star designer Marcello Gandini – around 2000 examples were produced in five series between 1974 and 1990. Italian designer Giotto Bizzarrini’s (96) V12 mid-engine had different displacements depending on the variant and produced between 355 hp in the LP400 S and 455 hp in the LP500S QV. In 2021, Lamborghini introduced a new version of the Countach: the full 814 hp LPI 800-4, close to the original in design, limited to 112 units.

3

LM 002

No, the Urus, available since 2018, was definitely not Lamborghini’s first SUV! And unlike the absolute bestseller by Lambo, which leaves an average of 3000 units from the factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese (Italy) each year, the LM 002 is not a serial product, but a real rarity: only 301 of the giant produced between 1986 and 1986 and 1993 copies sold! With the construction of the SUV, Lamborghini initially hoped to increase sales in the Middle East – but the project failed. With between 375 and 455 hp, the LM 002 has been a scourge for many fans from the very beginning.

4

Devil

A Lamborghini Diablo in “The Quail”

Probably the coolest of all Lamborghinis, it replaced the Countach in 1990. The self-proclaimed goal of the devilishly fast Diablo (Spanish: devil) was to become the first production vehicle in the world to break the 320 km/h limit, which the super sports car also achieved with a set top speed of 325 km/h. H. About 2900 units were produced from 1990 to 2001 – a complete success for the Lambo. A total of 16 versions rolled off the assembly line in Sant’Agata Bolognese, all with their own names and special features. Like its predecessors, the Diablo was already powered by a V12 engine delivering 492 hp in the base version. Murciélago was introduced in 2001 as the successor to Diablo.

5

gallardo

In 2003, Lamborghini put something like an entry-level model on the tarmac for the first time, with the Gallardo competing as a rival to the Ferrari 360 presented in 1999. Not only was the Gallardo 28 centimeters shorter than its Murciélago sister model, it also featured a five-liter V10 with at least 500 hp instead of the typical V12 engine. The two-seat coupé, which had to be made without the Lambo-specific scissor doors, sped up to 100 km/h in four seconds and reached a top speed of 309 km/h. Starting well under 200,000 francs, the Gallardo also broke new sales records: with more than 14,000 models sold, it replaced the Diablo as the best-selling Lamborghini.

Aventador

As the successor to the Murciélago, Lambo introduced the Aventador at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. Beneath the aggressive outer shell, a V12 engine with a displacement of 6.5 liters provided the usual performance values between 700 and 780 hp, depending on the version. 12 years of construction and exactly 11,465 units were built, Lamborghini released the ultimate Ultimae Edition last year. The sports manufacturer recently introduced the successor to the Aventador: in addition to the all-new V12 suction engine, the Revuelto is powered by three electric motors. The result: the most powerful production Lambo of all time with insane 1015 hp system performance!
