Swiss Post and the agricultural group Fenaco want to work together to set up a Switzerland-wide fast-charging network for electric vehicles. The two companies have signed a letter of intent to establish a joint venture in 2024.
As part of the collaboration, 150 locations, each with a different number of charging points for fast charging electric vehicles, will become available, Post and Fenaco announced on Monday. The charging stations should therefore be marketed together and be available to both private individuals and companies.
With the branches of the post office and the Agrola petrol stations of the Fenaco-Landi group, the conditions for fine-grained coverage have been provided, it said. There are now many fast charging stations along the highways. The Post and Fenaco charging networks would add charging options for electric vehicles in towns, cities and rural areas.
This also contributes to the sustainability objectives of the federal government. The electromobility roadmap foresees that the number of publicly accessible charging stations will increase from approximately 7,000 now to 20,000 in 2025.
The expansion of the charging stations is also linked to Swiss Post’s climate and energy targets. The first priority is to avoid CO2 emissions as completely as possible. That is why Swiss Post will consistently convert its vehicles to alternative drive systems in the coming years. One day, 10,000 charging points would be needed for the mail fleet – but they would mainly be located in stations that are not accessible to the public, a post spokeswoman said when asked.
