Yverdon misses the commitment of the canton of Valais

Favre explains: “The Valais taxpayer will never accept that they will pay the security costs for Yverdon games.” But that would have to be the case if Yverdon wanted to play in Zion. The club has the promise of the stadium owner, the city of Sion, and the stadium tenant, FC Sion, to be able to play the home games there. But neither that of the canton of Valais, nor of the police and the licensing authorities.

Playing in Sion costs three million francs

What now? These are the approaches to the dilemma:

• Yverdon goes full throttle and plays in their own Stade Municipal. This is currently the climber’s preferred solution. But that is also very complicated. On June 15, the city council must say yes to the renovation of the stadium. And it will be a long time before all the construction work is finished, especially the new light poles. It will be September at the earliest. Maybe even at the end of the year. Until then, Yverdon would only play away games. Which seems unrealistic. And you would also have to submit a new application to the license commission because – as mentioned – the license file only contains the name Sion.
• Yverdon plays ghost games in Zion until their own stadium is ready. Favre ruled that out.
