Movement in the shareholder dispute around FC Luzern. As the “Luzerner Zeitung” writes on Wednesday morning, VR Vice President Josef Bieri has sold parts of his shares to nine well-known personalities from the region.

One percent of the shares each goes to FDP cantonal councilor Thomas Meier, entrepreneur Robert Casagrande, architect Patrick von Deschwanden, PwC Lucerne partner Dominik Birrer, Blue Orchard director Michael Wehrle, EV-Zug president Hans-Peter Strebel and Josef Bieri’s son Pascal Bieri, co-founder of the start-up Planted Foods AG.

Two old acquaintances

In addition, Bieri is bringing two returnees on board: the Egyptian tourism investor Samih Sawiris and the Lucerne contractor Hans Schmid will receive 10.5 and 13 percent of the shares respectively. They both already owned shares, but had sold them to Bieri in 2021. Bieri himself retains about 17.3 percent.

However, the integration of the new shareholders does not change the balance of power, Swisspor patron Bernhard Alpstaeg is still the majority shareholder. According to Bieri, the broadening of the shareholder base brings one step closer to an FCL that has broad support in the region.

“A sign of solidarity”

In addition, you send such an important signal: “It shows that the club belongs to everyone, that we are not dependent on individuals or even foreign investors.” All nine shareholders know that they cannot really make money with their bets. They do it out of solidarity with the club and the region – the report said. “If I can help in any way after so many years, I’m happy to do so,” says Hans Schmid. It is a sign of solidarity and loyalty to Bieri and the FCL.
