22:06 at the Stade Municipal in Yverdon. Referee Alessandro Dudic has just blown the whistle against Aarau. Thanks to the hard-fought 1-1, Yverdon returns to the Super League. Fireworks light up the skies of Northern Vaud and the players pop the champagne.

William Le Pogam: “A dream come true”

Captain William Le Pogam joined Yverdon in the summer of 2020. In his first season, the French full-back was promoted to the Challenge League. On Tuesday evening he was able to celebrate his second promotion.

“I’m not sure I would have believed that at the start of the season. I gave everything to live such moments. This is incredible for us, the city and everyone who contributed to this. The team has more heart than talent – And that paid off today.” Le Pogam continued: “Nobody would bet on us, but that’s the beauty of football. If you play with heart, passion and will, you can move mountains.” The recipe for success? “The values of this team, heart and desire. Everyone has a little bit of talent at this level, but it’s the way we think that makes us special. We spend an incredible time together and enjoy it.”

Kevin Martin: “Teammates saved me”

In the 15th minute, everyone thought that Kevin Martin would be the tragic hero of the night. Yverdon’s goalkeeper made a big mistake for the 0-1. Luckily for him, his team quickly equalized and held onto victory with some crucial saves in the second half.

“I have no idea what happened at the 0-1. I misjudged the trajectory of the ball and it flew over me. I screwed up, but today I was lucky that the ten guys – and those who came in – saved me. It’s a reflection of the team this year.” Martin was mentally ready. “I tried to make the best of it. I had to stay mentally strong in this situation. After conceding a goal, some of my teammates came up to me and said, ‘It’s okay, we’ll score a goal for you ‘” He describes the promotion as a great relief. “People don’t know that we’ve had an incredible, but also very exhausting season. Now three quarters of the team is physically and mentally exhausted, but it’s nice to see all those people in the stands. We had a goal and we achieved it.”

Brian Beyer: “Means a lot to me”

Brian Beyer’s story is remarkable. The Frenchman went through several amateur competitions at home and signed his first professional contract with Yverdon at the beginning of 2022. On Tuesday evening he scored the only goal for the Vaudois. A goal synonymous with ascension.

«Playing in the top division of Swiss football next season means a lot to me. I’ve come a long way The most important thing is that I’ve made it to the top on my own – I haven’t been signed by any other Super League club. This is something magical. Right now I’m just happy and I’m slowly realizing it. We celebrate Ascension with everyone. I’m very proud of the team and staff, we did it.”
