But the Welshman counted without Rob McElhenney (46). The actor is a co-owner of Wrexham AFC. Together with Ryan Reynolds (46), he led the Welsh club back to English professional football.
With Ben Foster (40), the club managed to get a retired player last season. And now the climber wants to sign the Welsh record goalscorer.
McElhenney publicly addressed Bale on a TV show: “Gareth, I know Southern California is beautiful and you want to enjoy it. But you’re still young and can keep this up long enough. Imagine what it would be like to to return to Wales for one last year. Your people will give you the honor of doing this for your country. Make the right decision and call me.”
Bale himself had dispelled the rumors at a gala. When asked about a comeback, the five-time Champions League winner said he was “basically just hoping for a free round of golf with Rob (McElhenney)”.
The Welshman has been interested in golf throughout his professional career, sometimes too much in the eyes of some Real fans and officials. A photo of the superstar famously ranks how important Real Madrid, Wales and golf are to him. Real was seeded last, sparking a minor scandal within the royal team.
